Comic Book Battles: Deadpool vs Winter Soldier (Movie Versions)

Before Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, takes on Cable and his techno-organic arm in Deadpool 2 , the Merc with a Mouth is facing a character with a cybernetic arm from the Marvel Cinematic Universe: James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier. It’s the Regeneratin’ Degenerate versus Captain America’s best buddy! Who’s going to take the win? Let’s cast aside personal preferences and look at the advantages that these cinematic characters are bringing to the brawl. Before we get into the details, let’s paint a picture of where this battle takes place so it’s easier to imagine the fight. To keep things balanced, let’s say these two have spotted each other in a generic city setting. It’s nighttime, no civilians are around, and they start the match about 50 feet apart on the street. There's plenty of stuff for cover, like bus stops, parked cars, garbage bins, and more. It’s a random encounter, meaning neither character knows anything about their enemy. For simplicity’s sak

Comic Book Review: The Despicable Deadpool #298

Gerry Duggan (writer) Mike Hawthorne (artist) Terry Pallot (inker) Jordie Bellaire (colorist) VC’s Joe Sabino (letterer) Wow, Wade Wilson really is living up to the name “Despicable Deadpool.” The second chapter of “The Marvel Universe Kills Deadpool” never slows down and it’s packed with consistently solid gags and legitimately fun action. This issue doesn’t offer a lot of character insight or move the plot forward all that much, but it does offer a ton of great-looking entertainment. First off, let’s talk about the artwork and lettering. For years now, Gerry has been proving that he can do tremendous work with Deadpool, but without good visuals that match the story’s tone, his stories – along with any other comic book writer’s work – just wouldn’t make as much of an impact. Thankfully, Gerry’s collaborated with some amazing artists, colorists, inkers, and letterers over the years, and Despicable Deadpool #298 is no exception. Hawthorne, Pallot, and Bella

Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay review

Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay doesn’t feature any legitimately good people. It’s all about bad people who know they’ve done bad things, but most of them will stop at nothing to make sure they can get away with their bad actions. I’ve used the word “bad” three times now, and thankfully, that’s not the word I’d use to describe this movie. In fact, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay is pretty awesome. Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay – which is directed by Sam Liu and written by Alan Burnett – completely embraces its R rating and delivers a lot of twisted fun. It’s violent – people are riddled with bullets and sliced apart – and doesn’t shy away from swearing and sexual content. Brutal action and this kind of tone is exactly what I’d expect from Amanda Waller’s team of cruel criminals while they're on a chaotic road trip, but hey, if you were looking for an all-ages story about some of DC’s most popular murderers, then this one obviously isn’t for you and it’s absolutely not for younger vi

I've Joined the Comic Book Resources Team

Hey, everyone! Quick update: I've joined the Comic Book Resources team as a freelance writer! You can check out my author page here . While this new gig does mean that posts here on Comic Book Conversations will not be as frequent as they have been, it does not mean the blog will be abandoned - plenty of content is still on the way! Several people from the comics industry have interview questions in their inbox, and several more have been invited to take part in the segment - I have plans to reach out to even more people, too. Additionally, the Comic Vine community voted All-New Wolverine vs. Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) as the next "Comic Book Battle" they'd like to see! Research on that will take more time (especially since Vol 4 of the Cassie collection isn't out yet), but expect to see an analysis of that clash at some point. Plus, I'll be sure to update with the occasional review and editorial. I'll do my best to have a review on every edition
