Justice League Dark: Apokolips War - The End of an Era

Seven years ago, the DC New 52 Animated Movie Universe was born. I remember it well because I was lucky enough to attend the world premiere of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox  at Comic-Con International 2013. I was writing for Comic Vine at the time, and I absolutely loved the movie. In fact, I liked it so much that I rushed back to my hotel room and began writing my review right away. While so many people at the convention met with friends, networked, and enjoyed being in San Diego on a Friday night, I sat in front of my laptop and started to type away. The Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox  premiere wrapped up around 9:30pm, and my glowing review was live on Comic Vine just a few hours later. Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert's Flashpoint  comic book event kicked off DC's slate of The New 52 comics back in 2011, but at the time of the animated movie's release, I had no idea that Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox  would actually spawn an entire universe of

On Sale Now: Teen Titans GO! vs. Teen Titans & Batman Beyond: The Complete Series

There are two new DC animated releases from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, and thankfully, they are both  worth adding to your collection! Up first: Teen Titans GO! vs. Teen Titans . Directed by Jeff Mednikow and written by Jeremy Adams and Marly Halpern-Graser, this animated movie is legitimately hilarious and a total blast. Sure, the storyline is straightforward, but I found myself laughing out loud at least once every few minutes and the ride is packed with fan service. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's absolutely one of my favorite comic book movies this year. I can't recommend it enough, and you can get your copy here . Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! As you can see above, Batman Beyond: The Complete Series  is quite a collection. In addition to the exclusive chrome Funko POP and cool exclusive lithographs, there is more than 18 hours  of bonus content! Plus, this collection doesn't just come with all of the Batman Beyond  episodes... it also in

Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated movie review

Review by Gregg Katzman The Dark Knight and the Heroes in a Half Shell joining forces is something I've wanted to see since I was around five or six years old. Back in 2015, I got my wish when DC Comics and IDW Publishing worked together to craft a crossover comic. It's no surprise that the limited series was a hit, and now a  third  volume is being released by writer James Tynion IV, artist Freddie E. Williams II, and colorist James Colwell. The comic is unleashing plenty of amusement, but the thought of an animated  adventure staring Batman and the Ninja Turtles is extra special because, just like so many other people, it was the cartoons that made me fall in love with these heroes in the first place. Well, a Batman and TMNT animated movie is finally here, but was it worth the wait? Thankfully,  Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles  lived up to my expectations and then some. Sure, not all of the humor had me laughing out loud and Damian Wayne should've been a

Reign of the Supermen animated movie review

Review by Gregg Katzman The Death of Superman is easily one of my favorite DC animated movies (you can read my review here ). The 2018 animated movie delivered a legitimately epic slugfest between the Man of Steel and Doomsday, and despite knowing how it all ends, the way it played out still managed to make me tear up. I'm pretty sure the only other time that's happened with a DC animated movie is Batman: Under the Red Hood - that ending gets me every time. Obviously, my love for The Death of Superman means my expectations were pretty high for director Sam Liu's Reign of the Supermen . But is that fair? After all, aren't these two completely different stories with completely different goals? Death was all about establishing a heartwarming relationship between Lois Lane and Clark Kent - as well making the Big Blue Boy Scout a more inspirational figure - before he throws down with the most savage foe he's ever faced. It's certainly not an

I've Joined the Valiant Universe!

Hey, everyone! You've probably noticed I haven't updated this site in quite some time. I do apologize for that, but I promise there's a really good reason for it... Please know I am always happy to make reading recommendations and the easiest way to ask me is via Twitter . Stay tuned for more updates. Hope everyone's 2019 is off to a great start!

Deadpool 2 Deserves More Credit for its "Villain"

I really enjoyed Deadpool 2 , and I think it's way more ambitious than the first film. It's got all of the action, humor, and fan service of the first one, but it also packs a good amount of heart and handles world building in a pretty organic way. There are a bunch of fun things to write about when talking about the movie - like the future potential for these characters - but one thing that I haven't seen discussed is the movie's handling of its "villain." Unlike most comic book movies, Deadpool 2 doesn't have a traditional villain. Instead of being about good people trying to stop a bad person from doing something evil, it's about (mostly) good people trying to stop a good person from turning evil. The villain - the future version of "Firefist" - barely gets any screen time, and the only other blatantly bad people, like the Headmaster and Juggernaut, are clearly not the focus of the story. "Trying to stop a good person"
